Today, January 5, Kashmiris all around the world, including those in Azad Kashmir, are commemorating Self-Determination Day.

Today, January 5, is a significant day for Kashmiris all around the world, as they commemorate Self-Determination Day. This day marks the anniversary of the United Nations Security Council's adoption of the Resolution on Kashmir, which was passed on January 5, 1949. The resolution called for the withdrawal of Pakistani forces from the region and for a plebiscite to be held to determine the will of the people of Kashmir regarding their future status. Although the resolution has never been fully implemented, Self-Determination Day has come to symbolize the Kashmiri people's ongoing struggle for their right to self-determination and their desire to be able to freely determine their own future. Kashmiris in Azad Kashmir, as well as those in other parts of the world, are taking part in events and activities to mark this day and to show their support for the cause of self-determination for the people of Kashmir.

The All-Party Hurriyat Conference, a coalition of political parties in Kashmir, has claimed that the United Nations' resolutions on the conflict in Kashmir have not been carried out despite more than seven decades having passed. The Hurriyat Conference is particularly concerned with the Security Council Resolution on Kashmir, which was passed in 1949 and called for the withdrawal of Pakistani forces from the region and for a plebiscite to be held to determine the will of the people of Kashmir regarding their future status. Despite this resolution, and others passed by the United Nations, the situation in Kashmir remains a source of tension and conflict between India and Pakistan. The Hurriyat Conference believes that the failure of the United Nations to implement its resolutions and bring an end to the conflict is a sign of the organization's inadequacy and inability to effectively a world free from conflict by resolving disputes.

In the internationally recognized disputed area of Kashmir, there are reports that the Hindu nationalist ideology known as Hindutva is being supported and promoted by the Indian government. This has led to increased tensions and conflict in the region, as many people in Kashmir are opposed to Hindutva and fear that its implementation could lead to the suppression of their rights and freedoms. Additionally, according to a report, over 250,000 Kashmiris have been victims of crimes committed by the Indian government or Indian military. These crimes include human rights abuses such as arbitrary detention, torture, and extrajudicial killing. The situation in Kashmir has been widely condemned by human rights organizations and international bodies, and there have been calls for the Indian government to respect the rights of the people of Kashmir and to find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.

According to the All-Party Hurriyat Conference, the failure of the United Nations to resolve the ongoing conflict in Kashmir is a sign of the organization's inadequacy. The Hurriyat Conference is a coalition of political parties in Kashmir that advocates for the implementation of the Security Council Resolution on Kashmir, which was passed in 1949. The resolution called for the withdrawal of Pakistani forces from the region and for a plebiscite to be held to determine the will of the people of Kashmir regarding their future status. Despite the efforts of the United Nations, the resolution has never been fully implemented, and the situation in Kashmir remains a source of tension and conflict between India and Pakistan. The Hurriyat Conference believes that the failure of the United Nations to bring an end to the conflict is a sign that the organization is not able to effectively resolve conflicts and promote peace in the world.
